/ december 26, 2017 by kimber fike journey is a 9 year old girl that came from a commercial breeding kennel where she has spent all her life having puppies. her 'journey' in life so far has been devoid of living inside a home, living as a pet and not just a 'cash cow,' getting needed vet care, and learning that people can be a good thing. she is shy but making slow progress learning all about her new life. she recently was spayed, had a dental cleaning, and had her back dew claws taken off. unfortunately during her spay, a mammary growth was discovered. it was sent in to be tested. it did come back as malignant, but the growth is considered to be completely excised. the report states that there is only a 4% chance of metastasis or reoccurence. a recent chest x-ray was clear. she has learned to walk on a leash and is doing well with housetraining. she is about 17 inches tall and currently weighs 31 pounds. she gets along well with other dogs and is looking for a quiet home (no young children) with patient people that will understand she will be a 'work in progress' for quite a while. we can't wait to see where her 'journey' in life will take her next. we are so glad to be a part of it! she is being fostered in the memphis, tn area, and we prefer to place her as locally as possible. a fenced yard is a must for her due to her shyness. she needs a family that would love to adopt a dog that has had a hard life. she might not show you the love back right away, but watching a shy one 'bloom' is a very fulfilling experience! february 09, 2018 molly - adopted! / december 26, 2017 by kimber fike molly came to us when her owner needed to move into an assisted living facilty and couldn't take her dear molly with her who she has had since she was a puppy. molly is a collie mix and is now 11 years old. she is well socialized and good with other dogs, cats, and children. she is crate trained, housetrained, and knows some basic obedience commands. she is good on a leash and loves to ride in the car! her owner did let her get too heavy, though. she weighed almost 86 pounds in september and is now down to about 72. we think she needs to lose a few more pounds, so her new family would need to keep her on a diet and exercise program. we did test her thyroid, and it is fine. she is a great dog and has a lot to give! senior dogs rock! please consider giving a home to miss molly! note - in the first 2 pictures her hair is shorter due to her previous owner having it trimmed short. it is growing out now and looking lovely! february 09, 2018 hannah - adopted! / november 14, 2017 by kimber fike hannah was adopted by her foster family! hannah is a small sheltie weighing in at about 16 pounds. she came from a commercial breeding facility and did not have adequate socialization when she was young. she is just now learning how to live inside and be a pet. she is doing well with crate and housetraining and gets along well with other dogs. we are looking for a home with shy sheltie experience and one that has another socially normal dog to help miss hannah learn what it is like to live in the 'real world.' february 09, 2018 max - on hold (medical) / november 14, 2017 by kimber fike meet max. max had been living outside for a long time (at least 8 years!) before we got him. it took 4 baths to get him somewhat clean! at some point in the past, he was hit by a car and not treated. we have shown his x-ray to several vets and the consensus is that it is stable and nothing should be done at this point in time. he does need a home with few to no stairs. he is adjusting very well to living in the house, having a soft bed, eating quality dog food, getting yummy treats, etc.! the vet estimates him to be 11 to 12 years old. he has been neutered and gotten his teeth cleaned. he weighs about 28 pounds. he is being fostered in northwest arkansas. december 26, 2017 cooper / july 15, 2017 by mark staggs adopted!!! cooper is an approx. 7 to 8 year old sable male. he was in bad shape when we got him. he was treated for heartworms and lyme disease. he is such an awesome dog! he is being fostered in memphis, tn. november 14, 2017 buddy / july 15, 2017 by mark staggs adopted!!! buddy - 2 year old sable male. he was turned into rescue after his owners bought him off a craig’s list ad and discovered he was very shy (esp. of men). we are working with him to be more comfortable with people, places, and things. he is sweet but also will be a ‘work in progress’ for a while. november 14, 2017 cassie / july 15, 2017 by mark staggs adopted!!!
